We are Cloud Monkey, a small team building highly precise variometers. We obsess over every tiny detail that makes a difference in the air, and every tiny feature that makes it easier to use.
Features
Zero lag; <1cm response; Bluetooth connectivity
Ultra-sensitive vario using an accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometer, with zero lag and <1 cm response, unlike the 1–2 second delay of most varios.
Connects over Bluetooth LE to XCTrack, FlySkyHy, and other iOS and Android flight apps. Use your phone as your main instrument, like most pros do, and you’ll never need to upgrade your vario.
5 sound bands, 6 custom modes, training mode (all unique to us)
Most varios have three sounds. Ours has five distinct beep patterns for lift, low lift, thermal sniffer, lifty glide, and sink. Set thresholds for each band or switch any of them off.
Save up to 6 modes with different thresholds for strong, weak, or soaring days, and switch between them mid-flight with one button. Comes with 2 modes set up.
Training mode stays silent above 1 m/s (adjustable), so you learn to thermal by feel, and beeps below it so you don’t sink out.
Rugged; 150+ hr battery; USB-C charging; sunlight-readable screen
One charge lasts even hardcore XC pilots a full season, so you can set off on a long vol biv without worrying about the battery. The reflective screen shows vario, averaged vario and altitude.
We built it for the Himalayas and tested it there for 400 hours, flying regularly above 5000 m. Cloud flying at high altitude and coastal flying won’t bother it.
Smooth tones with custom synth piezo circuit
Most varios sound unpleasant. Ours is actually nice to listen to. No other electronic device uses this circuit, and we make our own sounders.
